Big five destination – Tanzania
Big five destination – Tanzania. The chance to see the “Big Five” is a big reason why people go to Tanzania. That being said, Tanzania is one of the few places in Africa where you can see all five of them in the wild. We tell you which parks to see in this blog!
What are the Big Five?
People often use the phrase “Big Five,” and they have for a long time. However, its history is not a happy one. Many shooters used to really want to kill one of the “Big Five.” These are the animals that are hardest to catch on the hunt. These animals are no longer killed, which is a good thing. Now we just use cameras to take beautiful pictures of them. A lot of people who visit Tanzania want to take picture after picture of the “Big Five” animals to remember their trip.
What makes Tanzania the best place to see the Big Five?
Every animal has its own place to live. Tanzania is different from many other African countries because it is “easier” to see wildlife there. This is due to the fact that Tanzania has a lot of wild animals. Nature hasn’t been changed at all, and the animals can only live in places like Tanzania. During your tour, your guide can tell you more about this.
See the animals where they live naturally.
Tanzania is a great place to go on safari because it has beautiful natural scenery that you can’t find anywhere else in Africa. In some countries, parks have nice asphalt roads and walls around them. But in Tanzania’s national parks, you won’t find these things. This makes you feel like you’re on the real adventure.
What five animals make up the “Big Five”?
Bear Cat Lion Elephant Rhino Buffalo
Lion
The lion is one of the most well-known of the “Big Five.” It is possible to see lions in groups of up to 25. Most of Tanzania’s national parks have lions. Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater are no different. People think that the second park is the best place to see lions and is the most famous national park in the world. There are more big cats here than anywhere else in the world. These are the leopard and the cheetah, along with the lion.
Leopard
It can be hard to spot one of the Big Five animals, the leopard. Most of the time, they sit in trees and hunt early in the morning or late at night. They take their food up a tree when they catch it. A cheetah is smaller, thinner, and faster than a leopard, which many people mistake for the other. They also don’t climb trees because they don’t have claws. The same national parks where you can see lions are also good places to see leopards.
Elephant
In Tanzania, the elephant is one of the “Big Five” animals that you can’t miss. Tanzania has a lot of elephants. Tarangire National Park is the best place to see elephants. At the Tarangire River, you can see more than a hundred elephants at once. Tanzania’s elephant number has grown over the past few years, which is good news. This is because illegal shooters are getting harsh punishments right now.
Rhino
That being said, the rhinoceros is the hardest to spot. Because it’s a threatened species, you don’t see it very often. They live in both Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Most of our customers are able to see the rhino in the hole, and the population is slowly growing. Again, because shooting without a license is illegal and conservation is more important than hunting these days.
Buffalo
It’s easy to spot one of the “Big Five” animals: the buffalo. It lives in all of Tanzania’s state parks. The buffalo live in big groups. Since they are herbivores, they only eat grass. They are very strong and can beat many enemies in fights.
