Tarangire National Park
Beautiful Baobab trees are what Tarangire National Park is known for. They can get very big and have a very strange shape. The Park is also well-known for having the world’s biggest group of elephants. Wild elephant groups of up to 300 can be seen near the Tarangire River. The animals get most of their fresh water from the River. During the dry season, they come here to drink or just take a bath to cool off from the sun. At the end of the dry season, elephants dig into the riverbank to find water underground or look for Baobab trees to drink from.
Elephant heaven
Besides elephants, Tarangire is a great place to watch birds. Birds like hornbills, lovebirds, lilac-breasted rollers, parrots, eagles, and ravens live there. There are more bird types that nest in the swamps of Tarangire National Park than anywhere else in the world. You can also see lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even pythons that can climb trees in the area around these swamps.
The real environment of Tarangire
Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s less well-known parks, but it still feels like a real adventure. The blue sky and rolling hills covered with huge Baobab trees make for a beautiful scene.

Our experts give you advice on how to visit Tarangire National Park
Mark here. I’ve been a guide at Tarangire National Park for 15 years. Our guests love Tarangire mostly because there are so many elephants and big Baobab trees there. There is a lot to see in Tarangire, which is pretty big. It’s best to spend one day in the park’s north and another day in its strange south.
The best time to go to Tarangire
Tarangire is a great park all year round to see animals. Animals gather around the Tarangire River, which is the main source of water in the area, during the dry season (June–October). A lot of animals leave the park when it rains, from April to May, because the black cotton dirt hurts their hooves.
