When is the best time to visit Tanzania

A lot of tourists ask us when the best time is to go to Tanzania. There isn’t just one right answer. It depends on what you like, where you want to go, how much money you have, and what you want to see. This page tells you everything you need to know about the best times to visit Tanzania.

Dry Season (June to October and December to February): The nice weather and great chances to see wildlife make these months perfect for safaris and trips to the beach. You can expect hotel prices to go up and parks and sites to be busier, though.

Midseason, which lasts from March to November, is a good time to visit because hotel prices are average and there aren’t as many tourists. Even though the weather can change and some sites may not be open because of rain, you can still see a lot of wildlife and have a more relaxed safari experience.

The wet season, which lasts from April to May, is great for tourists on a budget because it’s when hotel prices are lowest and parks are least crowded. The heavy rains make the scenery bright and lush, but the weather can change your trip plans.

Day by day breakdown

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Your Tanzania Specialist guide meets you with a big smile as you leave Kilimanjaro International Airport: “Karibu Tanzania! Welcome to Tanzania!” The guide takes you straight to your hotel, where you can unwind and enjoy the African vibe. The following day, your guide takes you on a private tour where you can go at your own speed. You can stop and watch the animals for as long as you want in the comfort of your own adventure jeep.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is famous for having a lot of elephants and big baobab trees. Some of these trees have been around for hundreds of years. During the dry season, elephants use a special method to get water from these trees. Also, during the dry season, the Tarangire River is the only source of water. That’s why you can see groups of up to 250 elephants in Tarangire, along with many other animals.

Day 3 – 4: Serengeti National Park (central west/east)

Serengeti National Park is famous for being the best place to go on safari, mostly because it is where the Great Migration goes through. The huge herds that charge each other are amazing, as are the huge numbers of animals that hunt here: over 4,000 lions, 225 cheetahs, 1,000 leopards, 3,500 hyenas, and hundreds of wild dogs! There are also many other beautiful animals that your guide will be happy to look for with you. Are you ready for this?

Day 5: Ngorongoro Conservation Area (incl. Crater)

One of Africa’s seven natural wonders is the well-known Ngorongoro Crater. Two million years ago, a huge volcano exploded and made the crater. The fertile lava has made a unique environment that is now home to more animals than any other place in Africa. There are thousands of animals, like lions, zebras, buffalo, and black rhinos, all around you in the crater, and the views are breathtaking.

Day 6: Flight to Zanzibar (included in the price)

Today you fly to Zanzibar, an island known for its spices. You are picked up at the airport by our guide and taken to your hotel. In the next few days, you can visit beaches with white sand, blue water that is as clear as glass, and coral reefs that are full of life. Interested in culture? Then go to Stone Town and learn all about its past. People who like to eat can also go to the spice farms and try the different flavors of the tasty local food. Get ready for a tropical paradise!

Day 7 – 9: Zanzibar

Beautiful, exotic Zanzibar is the ultimate paradise. The Indian Ocean is a bright blue color, and the white sand beaches are just about too beautiful to be real. You can buy fresh coconut drinks on the beach, lay out in the sun or swim for hours, and eat some of Zanzibar’s best food. Are you ready to do something? Then do a variety of things to see the beach, ocean, and island! The Safari Blue Cruise or a tour of Stone Town are both great ideas.

Day 10 – 11: Flight home from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ)

Today is the last day! You can either chill out on the beach or see a little more of the island, depending on when your trip is. After that, a driver gets you to Zanzibar International Airport in time for your home trip. Having second thoughts? You can also add another paradise island to your trip, like Mnemba, Pemba, or Mafia!
