When is the best time to visit Tanzania?
A lot of tourists ask us when the best time is to go to Tanzania. There isn’t just one right answer. It depends on what you like, where you want to go, how much money you have, and what you want to see. This page tells you everything you need to know about the best times to visit Tanzania.
Dry Season (June to October and December to February): The nice weather and great chances to see wildlife make these months perfect for safaris and trips to the beach. You can expect hotel prices to go up and parks and sites to be busier, though.
Midseason, which lasts from March to November, is a good time to visit because hotel prices are average and there aren’t as many tourists. Even though the weather can change and some sites may not be open because of rain, you can still see a lot of wildlife and have a more relaxed safari experience.
The wet season, which lasts from April to May, is great for tourists on a budget because it’s when hotel prices are lowest and parks are least crowded. The heavy rains make the scenery bright and lush, but the weather can change your trip plans.

Day by day breakdown
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Your Tanzania Zanzibar Safari guide meets you with a big smile as you leave Kilimanjaro International Airport: “Karibu Tanzania! Welcome to Tanzania!” The guide takes you straight to your hotel, where you can unwind and enjoy the African vibe. The following day, your guide takes you on a private tour where you can go at your own speed. You can stop and watch the animals for as long as you want in the comfort of your own adventure jeep.
Day 2 – 3: Tarangire National Park – luxury style!
In the beautiful Tarangire National Park, the attention is on grandeur. You can walk among the many huge baobab trees while looking for huge groups of elephants. The Tarangire River and Lake Burunge are home to many lions, zebras, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, pythons, and monkeys. These giants aren’t the only big animals that live here. For smaller species, the beauty is in the numbers, and Tarangire is also a great place to watch birds.
Day 4: A taste of culture – Mto wa Mbu: Mountain bike ride & Maasai village + Gibb’s Farm walk & lunch
The town of Mto wa Mbu is close to Lake Manyara National Park. It is a green spot in the middle of the Maasai plains that surround it. Riding a mountain bike is a great way to learn about the culture and see this cute little town, the lush green nature around it, and the banana plantations. Then get off your bike and go to a nearby Maasai town. There, people from the Maasai tribe will show you how they live.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – luxury style!
You will be going down into the beautiful crater of the famous Ngorongoro Crater today. Today is THE day to go on a game drive early, when there are lots of animals and not many people. The sight of the many animals and the clouds in the sky will make the hairs on your arms stand on end as you drop into the crater. There are coyotes, hyenas, buffalo, wildebeests, gazelles, and many other animals here, and it’s likely that you’ll see them all.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park luxury style – by plane
For the best tour ever, fly into the stunningly beautiful Serengeti National Park. Come see the famous “Big Five” in all their glory. During some months, you can also see thousands of wildebeests running in the Great Migration. Even without that, this is a great place to see big cats. There are groups of lions on kopjes, cheetahs in the long, yellow grass, and leopards in the trees. You get there just in time for a great afternoon game drive that goes into the dusk.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park – luxury style! + Hot air balloon flight in Serengeti
When you think of a fancy trip, Serengeti National Park has everything you can think of. Not only the Big Five, the famous Great Migration, and many big cats, but also rare animals like the gerenuk and the wild dog. Oh, and did we forget to add the more than 500 bird species? You can see antelopes, giraffes, elephants, zebras, hippos, and many other animals along the way. For a great balloon adventure, make sure to get up at dawn…
Day 8: Flight to Zanzibar (included in the price)
Today you fly to Zanzibar, an island known for its spices. You are picked up at the airport by our guide and taken to your hotel. In the next few days, you can visit beaches with white sand, blue water that is as clear as glass, and coral reefs that are full of life. Interested in culture? Then go to Stone Town and learn all about its past. People who like to eat can also go to the spice farms and try the different flavors of the tasty local food. Get ready for a tropical paradise!

There will be miles of beaches lined with palm trees, wooden dhows on the horizon, and an ocean so blue that you need sunglasses to look at it…
Day 12: Flight home from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ)
Today is the last day! You can either chill out on the beach or see a little more of the island, depending on when your trip is.
