Chumbe Island Coral Park
Chumbe Island Coral Park is a private nature area that has won awards. It is close to Stone Town and only a few kilometers off the southwest coast of Zanzibar. The reserve has a forest reserve and a coral reef refuge that are both fully protected. There is a visitor and teaching center, a small eco-lodge, nature walks, and historical sites there. Eco-technology is used in all buildings and activities so that they have no effect on the environment.
This is how you stay!
In many ways, staying on Chumbe Island is a truly unique experience. Though there is only one house on the island with seven bungalows, it still feels pretty big, even when it’s full. These seven houses are so well thought out that they give you both privacy and the feeling of living outside. All of the bungalows have views of the ocean, and it only takes 30 seconds to walk from your hammock in one of the bungalows to the warm, tropical water.
Even eating on the island is done with great care for the sea ecosystem. You can eat tasty dishes from Africa, Zanzibar, Arabic, and India. They also have a program for buying seafood that makes sure it is harvested in a way that doesn’t harm the environment. Chumbe Island is where eco-friendly living meets high-end living!
Concern for the environment
The guest cabins on the island are built in a way that doesn’t hurt the environment. It’s the kind of thing Robinson Crusoe could only dream of! These plans almost certainly won’t hurt the environment on Chumbe Island. The technology includes collecting rainwater, using photovoltaic energy, heating water with solar energy, using composting toilets, and filtering gray water with plants. You can be sure that you will keep the island clean while you are there.
Please keep in mind that Chumbe Island is closed every year from April 1st to June 3rd.
