Tipping in Tanzania: How much to tip on safari

Tipping in Tanzania: How much to tip on safari. We may be biased, but we think Tanzanians are the best people in the world. A lot of our clients really enjoy their trip and have great things to say about the staff at the hotels. People are helpful, funny, open, friendly, and have a good heart. Because of this, you might want to tip the people you meet on vacation. How much should you give?

TANZANIA SMALL TIPS

Smaller tips are usually given to people who work in the place where you stay the night. You might want to give a tip to the people who carry your bags when you get there or to the cool waiter at the restaurant. You can leave a small tip for these people. A tip of 1 to 5 USD per person, or 2,000 to 10,000 Tanzanian shilling, is greatly welcomed.

There is also a tip box at the front desk of most places to stay where you can leave a tip for the whole staff. For that, 5 to 10 USD, or 10,000 to 20,000 Tanzanian shillings per night, is a very fair price.

To do this, you should bring some dollar bills or Tanzanian shilling bills with you.

GIVING TIPS TO YOUR GUIDE OR DRIVER

Also, please remember to tip your guide and driver, if they have one, at the end of the trip. Just as a general rule, you should give 10 USD per day for each person in your group during the trip.

This means that if four people go on a trip that lasts more than one day, this can add up to several hundred dollars for one driver/guide. It may seem like a lot of money, but remember that your guide is with you all day and night and takes care of all your needs during the trip.

GIVING TIPS TO YOUR GUIDE OR DRIVER

A group of leaders, porters, and cooks are with you as you climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Tip money is a great way to motivate people because it adds to their income. Also, the fact that they stay with you day and night during your climb shows that you appreciate the care they gave you on the mountain.

During the climb, the climbers normally give the lead guide $15 USD per day, the assistant guide $10 USD per day, the cook $10 USD per day, and each porter $8 USD per day.

Please remember that climbs need anywhere from 8 staff members for 1 climber to 48 staff members for 12 climbers. This means that the tips add up to more than $400 USD for the whole climb. Although this amount seems high, remember that they help you get up the mountain, watch out for your health, carry all of your bags, and cook you the tastiest food while things are tough.

A TIP: YOU CHOOSE

You should be so happy with your tour or climb that you tip your guide or porters at the end. Know this, though: you never have to feel like you have to!

Last but not least, our guides get paid well, and these tips are nice extras. Because there is still a lot of poverty in Tanzania and little to no social protection, they are often used to save money or help out the family.
